Simplicity Pattern 2588 - Joan Dress

I have decided to make this dress because I have found a wonderful tutorial online from Professor Pincushion. The instructions were excellent and it was easy to follow. I had some issues with sizing but that is common, I think, with commercial patterns. I plan to make another one for autumn in wool with longer sleeves. But I am a snail and take such a long time to finish my sewing projects so we will see. I am quite pleased with how my hairdo turned out. I have learned how to do it by watching one of the videos by the super talented Ashley. She has plenty of tutorials on retro/ vintage hair and makeup. Not sure what I would survive without all the wonderful tutorials on YouTube.

Mimi in Kimono

Last week a Japanese lady ask me to do the makeup for her daughter who was being photographed in a kimono. After that was done I had the honour of being fitted the kimono which  was a wonderful experience. There are three layers of clothing and the big belt (obi) is around four meters long and folded beautifully at the back. I was wearing my Cherries in the snow lipstick which went beautifully with the kimono.I have always been a great fan of Japanese culture so this was truly an incredible day. I was in Japanese heaven for half an hour! Thanks Yoko.
